How has COVID 19 affected your business?

Like many other local businesses the Mitchell Saldanha Real Estate Team has faced the challenge of how to adapt to their new circumstances regarding COVID-19. The Provincial Government has deemed the Real Estate industry as an essential service. Essential services include emergency services, food, shelter, transportation and communication services among others.  This ruling allowed us to continue to help those in dire need where they can while still practicing social distancing and all of the rules put out by our Government.  It also allows the Land Registry and lawyers to continue to close the transactions that have already been completed so their clients can close on and move into their homes. The team is still encouraging remote, electronic and virtual business as much as humanly possible during the next several weeks and are NOT operating business as usual.  We have changed how they operate their business to protect their clients who need to buy or sell real estate at this time.

How have you adapted or pivoted your business?

Our offices remain closed to the public and are NOT conducting open houses.  Our team have adapted their business by providing interactive online tours to help showcase listings to potential buyers while avoiding unnecessary in person showings. We are utilizing several online tools that allow clients to sign virtually which help the admin staff work with Lawyers and other service providers remotely.  (Other Passion & Sparkle member spotlights coming soon here).

How do you continue to service your clients?

Despite the emergence of Covid -19, there are situations where we need to continue to help  clients moreso now. Some examples may include a seller who had sold before the pandemic and who now needs to buy or become homeless, or a buyer who had already bought and hasn’t yet sold which may leave them in financial ruin.  We have seen some social media criticism of the governments decision to classify real estate as essential service.  For most people buying or selling real estate is not understandably a priority at this time but for those who have no alternative The Mitchell Saldhana team remain here and ready to help. We are a service industry with a focus right now to ensure we provide  service in the safest possible way to those who need them.

How are you managing personally?

I continue to get ready as if I'm going into the office with my hair and make-up done, it makes me feel good as well as gives me some me time before I start my day.  I am home during the day with my 3 boys (7, 3 & 3) on my own as my husband is also an essential worker and is out of the house most of the day. It has been difficult juggling being a stay at home mom, a business owner and a teacher. I have also been doing a home workout challenge with my friends and going for walks on my own to clear my head. It's so important to take care of ourselves during this time as it's so easy to let ourselves focus on everything else and forget that we are important too.
